Dear UHS Alumni,

 

With the support of Breakthrough National, Summerbridge SF was one of many Breakthrough chapters that made the decision to move online in the early days of shelter-in-place. In mid-April, the UHS Summerbridge/Breakthrough Team pivoted and began to recalibrate the curriculum to ensure students would have an enriching and rewarding summer experience. Laptops and reliable Wi-Fi were secured for all, and classes begin June 15.

 

Now, more than ever, we embrace our three-pronged purpose: Preparing ambitious middle school students from under-resourced circumstances to enter and thrive in well-matched high schools, for the purpose of securing admission to, succeeding in, and graduating from college; Providing intensive summer teaching fellowships for high school and college students who are passionate about the power of education, and creating meaningful volunteer experiences throughout the academic year for members of the UHS and San Francisco communities; Transforming lives through the unique and powerful relationship between the Summerbridge and UHS communities and their families.

 

Volunteer to help make College and Career Day Memorable! Friday, July 17

The team is working on bringing College and Career Day to life as a virtual experience Friday, July 17 and we need your help! One advantage to the shift online is that you can help no matter what city you're in. Contact Deundra Hundon, Summerbridge director of student and family services at Deundra.Hundon@sfuhs.org to learn more about how to create a 45 minute workshop for students (30 minute interactive activity + 15 minutes Q&A), and choose a time slot that day that works for you.

 

We're seeking SB alums and past Teaching Fellows to help with a special project
